My Uncle Paul was the youngest of seven children
and the only boy. Paul was in the Navy in World
War II and came home with the picture of the
Sphinx tattooed to his bicep. My uncle was larger
than life, and anytime he entered the room,
instead of the usual “Hi!” or “How ya doin?”
Paul’s greeting was “So, what’s the story?”
Uncle Paul needed to know the story. Yet, he
was also a gifted storyteller who could regale the
family for hours with extended stories that had everyone in stitches.
The world today is awash with stories. Nothing conveys information, attitude, or atmosphere, like a good story. Stories bind people together as well. The popularity of Twitter and Facebook demonstrates a human need to share stories as part of social networking.
