Loaves and Fish Scripture Echo

Use this Scripture Echo to help students remember that just as Jesus feeds a huge crowd of people with five loaves of bread and two fish (John 6:1-15), he feeds us with his body and blood at every Eucharist.
Use this Scripture Echo to help students remember that just as Jesus feeds a huge crowd of people with five loaves of bread and two fish (John 6:1-15), he feeds us with his body and blood at every Eucharist. He is the Bread of Life. Stand in front of students (with a chair next to you), read each line, and demonstrate the action below it. Have students stand also and repeat the words and the actions. For easy reference if needed, place the pages on a music stand in front of you.
Jesus crossed the Sea of Galilee.
(Rowing motion with arms)
There was a huge crowd following Jesus.
(Spread arms wide)
There must have been 5,000 people.
(Wipe brow and arch backward)
Jesus went up a mountain and sat down.
(Climb, then sit in chair)
Jesus said “Phillip.”
(Stand and emphasize “Phillip”)
“Where shall we buy bread
(Hands out, palms up as if questioning)
for these people to eat?”
(Stand stern, hands at side)
“We don’t have enough money!”
(Rub thumb against fingers)
(Smiling, kind voice)
“There’s a boy with five loaves
(Hold up 5 fingers)
and 2 fish.”
(Hold up 2 fingers)
(Fold hands in prayer)
“Tell the people to sit.”
(Sit in chair)
Jesus took the loaves
(Raise arms, hands holding “loaves”)
and passed them around.
(Lower arms, break apart and pass)
He took the fish
(Raise arms, hands holding “fish”)
and passed them around.
Jesus said to the disciples
(Stand, fold hands in prayer)
“Gather up what is left.”
(Pick up and put in “basket” on arm)
They gathered 12 baskets.
(Raise hands in amazement)
When the people saw this miracle
(Hand across brow, looking)
They began to say,
(Cup hands at mouth as if to shout)
“This truly is the Prophet
(Kneel, bow head)
sent by God.”
(Remain kneeling, raise arms upward)
